Here's a couple pics of my uncles sand troubles!  As always there's a good story that goes along.  If you want that too (for a good laugh at least) I'll send it along.
Keep up the good work on the Drumwagon site, I'll be checking back frequently.

Monday Dec. 6, this pelican hung out with us for a while and posed for this picture.
Don't look like Gus but maybe his brother?
Had another great trip.
Thanks,

(See Fish Reports for Nov 2004!!)
I made my first trip in October, and loved it, so i went back in November. I caught this big Striper Friday night Nov. 19th on cut bait around the 41 marker. It was 42 inches long and pegged my scale at 24 pounds, i would say it was at least 34 pounds. This fish really put a smile on my face. I'm ready to go again.

Tom,
I read this board everyday.......wishing I was on the Island. I think I have had the pleasure of meeting you ......but to tell you the truth......I'm not sure. I've been going over for many years.....way back when girls were a rare sight !  No place on earth better than "Davis Island".
This fish was caught on 10/11 at the north end by Mike Dillon. We lured him away from Portsmouth for a trip with us to "Davis".
He had to agree it was worth putting up with me for 3 days after he caught this rascal. Didn't get a weight or length, but would put money on 45-50 lbs easy. That grin stayed on his face up into the night........until his Braves got beat by my Astros!
I would appreciate it if you could get this on the pics board so I can prove we catch fish when I am there. If you are on the Island over Thanksgiving, I'll be sure to stop by and make sure I make your acquaintance. Keep up the good work. Thanks so much. My name is Ann but

I post on the board as......

Hi Tom,
I meant to send these before now, but got busy, etc.
These were taken the afternoon of July 17, 2004.
We were on the tip of the point. No where to run, no where to hide.
It was awe inspiring to see. At one point, there were
three separate funnel clouds visible.
It came ashore north of the lighthouse. I do not know it's progression from there.
Thank you so much for the website.
It's part of my daily routine and much appreciated.

This is a bad picture but it's all I have.  Could you please try and post it somewhere for me.  Don't laugh, but I'm really proud of this fish.
I met you on the ferry boat leaving the island.  This is the first big drum I've ever caught.  What a great weekend!!  I met a ton of nice people out there.
 tks,

This is just one of many drum the Codfish Crew caught on the north end of the island on 9/20/04. The guy with the big grin is Dwight Davis. The fish was caught about 0930 just as the tide turned from falling to rising with the wind blowing about 20 knots out of the N-NE. He used cut blue fish for bait. The group shot is, from left to right, Conley Mangum, Dwight Davis, Terry Toler, Matt Long and Julian Alman. I guarantee a LARGE time was had by all.
Thanks Jack for what you do with this site. GREAT JOB!! Big thanks to AWFC crew for all of their friendly attitudes and willingness to help out.

Tom:
My name is Jeff Holder and this was my 1st trip to Davis. We had a great time. Five of the seven guys that went had been there before and knew their way around. We arrived on the morning of Sep 18th and left on the morning of Sep 22. We stayed in cabin 18 which was really nice. On Monday night, Sep 20, we went to mile 45 and out to the beach. When we got there this is what we saw:
JeffH-Trk1.jpg (35932 bytes)
There was a Ford 250 with a cab over camper on the beach, stuck after trying to pull this one out. Our group, the owner of the camper and the occupants of this Ford dug out the camper and pulled it out with one of our trucks. No luck with the Bronco. The next day we went to fish and here is what we found:

JeffH-Trk2.jpg (119143 bytes)

Later that afternoon a tow truck came and pulled it out of the surf.
Here is a photo I took of the sunset at the dock.

9/11/2004:  Got on the island about 12:00 Sat. for a short trip.   My wife and I have been going for years and I think she was beginning to wonder if I was ever going to catch some big fish (besides sharks and rays).    Well, we just happened to be at the right spot at the right time.   After awhile she was tired of taking pictures.    Caught the fish on croaker meat or head just up past the cabins.    We didn't take a picture of the little one (small puppy).
We can't wait to get back, see you soon.
P.S. All fish were released to fight another day

Jack it was great seeing you again Tuesday evening. The house is looking good with all the hard work that you all have put in it. Ronnie's and Erma's is looking great also. The folks at Davis have been thru a lot and all of you are hopefully seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. Here are the photos that I took of a turtle on June 25 trip. She came out of the surf right in front of the bathhouse area. I had seen two others lay their eggs last year but this one is the largest one that I have had the pleasure of viewing laying her eggs. Maybe you can use some of these to post on the web site. I would like to be around once in my life time to watch the hatchling make their way back to the water.
I have had the joy of seeing a few of natures wonders on the island that many never get to see in a life time. If people take care of the island then we will have a piece of heaven here on earth for a long time to come.

 7YEARS OF LOVING THE BANKS

Joe13thBirthdayCoreBanks1.jpg (1097932 bytes)Joe13thBirthdayCoreBanks2.jpg (1034145 bytes)

Word has spread across the South Core Banks about a Flounder that was caught in a tidal pool over the Fourth Of July Weekend.  Let me briefly tell you this tale.
Joe Harned of Pine Level and Davis , NC asked for a trip to AWFC for his Birthday, which was June 30th.  The Harned Family was joined by friends on the Banks and enjoyed a wonderful celebration.  The day after his Birthday, Joe asked to go to the inlet to skim board and fish.  On the way up the beach it was low tide and there was a huge tidal pool a few miles from the inlet.  The Family stopped to swim, skim and fish.  Joe's Dad caught a few small sea mullet and put them in the pool for the kids to see.  Joe returned to the pool and sat down to play with one of the fish.  While he sat in the pool, he dug in the sand and out shot a flounder that was buried beside him.  Joe called his Dad and said he had seen a flounder.  His Dad, Brother Ian, and friend Justin Mason joined him in the pool with a minnow seine.  All were amazed when the flounder again swam out of the sand in an effort to get away.  The fish eluded the four for several minutes, until Joe's Dad pinned him to the bottom and picked him up with his bare hand.

The flounder was over 21" long and nearly 2" thick in the middle.  There was a group at AWFC that gigged in the surf the night before and had stuck 25 flounder near the Lighthouse.  Although the number of fish they caught and the rare ocean gigging was impressive, none of their fish were as big as the Tidal Pool Flounder!

Thanks to Jackie at AWFC and a very excited Teenager, the news of the tidal pool fish spread up and down the Banks.  I have attached two pictures and would appreciate it if you would post them and a brief story.  (Or the long version?-tom)

Joe had a great Birthday and the Harned Family enjoyed their company and an incredible trip to the Banks.  Thanks for your great site.  I visit the Banks daily and can't wait for our next trip.  The flounder provided four fillets and nourished the entire Harned Family in a post vacation seafood feast.

Thank you again,
Bob Harned

Here is a picture of the spade fish that my buddy's son, Marshall Tilley, age 13 and assisted by his brother, Christian Tilley, age 9 caught on our June 15 thru 17 (2004) camping trip to the South Point.  Caught on cut bait on the south side of the far end of the Point and was 16 inches long.  Man I love that place.

Thought I'd share with you guys. Been going to the Cape for 3 years now and loving it. We fished this past Friday till Monday. (June 11-14)  Pulled this baby up in front of the cabins with a small Croaker head. Waited 3 years and came when I least expected it.
I would be mighty proud to have the pic on your website if you don't mind.
I released him before we took the measurements.
Wanted some one else to have a shot at him later. Based on the pictures, we estimated he was around 45" and approaching 50lbs. Thanks for the great web site.
It comes in handy when you are stuck here at work.

I was down for the first time 4/30-5/02, really enjoyed it and will be back soon. One of my buddies caught this shark on 4/30 down at the south point. It was 3" shy of 8 feet! He caught it on 40# test after a two hr fight, then released it.
I was hoping someone could tell me what kind of shark and an estimated weight. I was dumbfounded! do you catch a lot of sharks like this from the surf?
 Thanks,

Whiting, mullet, trout and a few blues, plus one nice 7lb 11oz Black Drum (Caught by me PC Doctor). Lot of sharks and skates! We left on the 19th with about 15lb of boneless fish ready to eat.

ON NOVEMBER 7TH AROUND 5.00 O CLOCK IN THE AFTERNOON I WAS
FISHING JUST BELOW THE LIGHTHOUSE AROUND MILE MARKER 42.. THE
WIND WAS BLOWING OUT OF THE NORTH AND COMING STRAIGHT DOWN THE
BEACH AROUND 25 MILES AN HOUR.. I WAS USING CUT MULLET AND HAD
TIED ON TWO WEIGHTS TO KEEP IT OUT.... THEN I HOOKED THIS MONSTER
OF A RED DRUM PICTURED BEING HELD BY MY FISHING BUDDY JAY
HONEYCUTT.. AFTER ABOUT 45 MINUTES AND DOWN THE BEACH ABOUT 300
YARDS IT FINALLY GAVE UP AND CAME TO SHORE...IT WAS OVER 48
INCHES LONG AND 27 INCHES AROUND AND WE ESTIMATED THAT IT WEIGHED
ABOUT 50 LBS. IT FOUGHT HARDER THAT ANYTHING THAT I HAD EVER
HOOKED BEFORE.. AFTER A SHORT PHOTO SESSION IT WAS RELEASED
UNHARMED... MAYBE SOMEONE ELSE WILL HAVE THE THRILL THAT I HAD
THAT EVENING...

We just wanted to share with you the biggest catch that we've had on the island...
Here is a big Southern Atlantic Stingray that we caught on Nov. 2, 2003.  We hooked it at about 9 am down between the point and the rock jetty and it took 3 of us 2 hrs to get it on shore.  It measured a whopping 10 ft long and over 4 1/2 ft wide!  It's tail alone was over 6 ft long.  It was heavy too, we estimated the weight to be around 175-200 lbs.  After posing for a few pictures it was released back into the ocean to swim another day.
Thanks again for another
memorable trip!

Hey Ya'll,

Thought I would send ya some pics of a couple of the fish my ma in-law and I caught on cold, windy nights, Nov 8-11. We caught several keepers, but the fun ones were the ones we put back. It was a total of 4 large red drum the first was 27 lb, then 35 lb, 31 lb and finish up our trip a 50 pounder. It took 35 minutes to convince it to shore.  We always have a good time when we go to the island...and these were the biggest fish either of us had ever caught, which makes for great memories and fish tales with proof (pics).

Here is one of our group, Austin Foster (AKA Zorba) from Raleigh.
After catching limits of trout at sunset, we notice a nice break in the outer bar right in front of us as the tide began to turn. So what does Zorba catch on a 2 hook bottom rig with rotten shrimp? 42"x26.5"

I keep tell'n em "they didn't locate that fish camp there for nothing!!!"

Appreciate it if you get a chance to post this.

Austin is not that computer literate and seeing his picture on the www would blow his mind. This fish was caught smack dab between cabins 10A & 10B.
