The Gun Mounts were on either side of Ramp 45 when you came out of the back road from the Coast Guard Station. What most called the gun mounts were actually the forward observation platforms which were radio wired to other buildings back toward the Coast Guard Station from which the aiming of the guns were ordered. If you walk in those dunes today you can still find some of the concrete floors that were in those buildings along with the star shaped platforms some of the guns were mounted on.
There were also machine gun mounts on top of the dunes near the Coast Guard station. The Pine forest back there were planted in the 1950's. So, during WWII a Machine gun from the top of those dunes could hit anything from there to Shackelford Banks or on the beach from the lighthouse to the Cape. Hike around back there and find all sorts of things.
